Dr. Frank Rudzicz: Robot Designed to Help Alzheimer's Patients

By

Jessica Boafo

Congratulations to Dr. Frank Rudzicz and his team for unveiling Ludwig, a two-foot-tall robot created to engage people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia, late last month.

By drawing his patients into conversation, Ludwig’s creators say he can track and monitor signs of Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.

Dr. Rudzicz explains that Ludwig is not meant to replace care provided by living nurses and doctors but describes the technology as more of a “stop-gap.”

“It’s going to be a way to take away some of the burden for those individuals and current nurses and doctors to focus on what they normally do.”

Following the pilot project, the team hopes to roll out similar robots at organizations across Canada that caters to people with Alzheimer's disease and dementia.
