The 2015 Rehabilitation Sciences Institute Launch Event

On November 4th, 2015, The Faculty of Medicine proudly celebrated the launch of the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI).

Dr. Allan Kaplan, Vice Dean of Graduate and Academic Affairs co-hosted the event with the RSI’s inaugural Director, Professor Angela Colantonio. Both hosts spoke about the importance of rehabilitation sciences within the University of Toronto and throughout Canada.

Going forward, I would like our Institute to contribute to a culture of science but more specifically rehabilitation science… I embrace our new tagline: ‘working to make the impossible, possible.’ – Dr. Angela Colantonio, RSI Director

The evening continued with remarks from RSI student, Shaun Cleaver, a physiotherapist and PhD candidate who spoke about his work in rehabilitative program development in Haiti, Malawi, Cameroon, South Africa and in northern Canada.

The program then concluded with Dr. Rosalie Wang demonstrating her innovative work with assistive technology through the helper robot, Ed, designed as a caregiver that will help those living with dementia.

We are grateful to Katie Rock, the advancement team, numerous staff and faculty for organizing the event and a very special thanks goes to Professor Molly Verrier for emceeing the event and for all who attended!
