The Rehabilitation Sciences Institute (RSI) was proud to once again co-present the third annual International Conference on Aging, Innovation, and Rehabilitation (ICAIR), held May 1-2, 2025, at The Carlu in downtown Toronto. Hosted by the KITE Research Institute at the University Health Network (UHN), ICAIR 2025 brought together over 800 researchers, clinicians, engineers, policymakers, and students from around the world to explore cutting-edge innovations in aging and rehabilitation.
This year’s conference featured an engaging two-day program that included keynote talks from globally recognized leaders, hands-on workshops, panel discussions, and more than 70 research presentations. The agenda addressed emerging topics such as artificial intelligence in rehabilitation, inclusive technology design, digital health, and strategies for aging in place, aligned with ICAIR’s mission to drive impactful innovation for older adults and individuals with disabilities.
As co-presenters, RSI values the opportunity ICAIR offers our community: not only do students gain access to an internationally recognized conference in their own city, but subsidized registration also makes participation more accessible. This platform allows our students and faculty to showcase their research on a global stage while engaging in meaningful interdisciplinary dialogue.
Among RSI’s notable contributions this year was the continued sponsorship of the Rehabilitation Sciences Institute Best Poster Award in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI). Launched in 2024, this award exemplifies RSI's commitment to advancing inclusive research practices in rehabilitation sciences. All posters presented by trainees were evaluated for this year’s EDI award. Posters that exhibited meaningful consideration of EDI factors within the research design and/or demonstrated impact on healthcare or the age-tech sectors were eligible. Finalists were visited by judges during the poster session. Congratulations to this year’s EDI Award recipient for Best Poster:
We extend our sincere thanks to ICAIR organizing committee chair, Dr. Milos Popovic and the KITE-UHN team for their leadership in making ICAIR a premier global platform for innovation in rehabilitation and aging. RSI is proud to be a part of this growing initiative and looks forward to continuing our involvement in years to come.
