Congratulations to Angela Colantonio and Susan Jaglal who were elected as Fellows to the Canadian Academy of Health Sciences for their contributions to the promotion of health science.
Angela Colantonio led an internationally recognized research program on outcomes in persons with neurological disability, with a focus on long term traumatic brain injury of over 20 years. Angela was the inaugural holder of the Saunderson Family Chair in Acquired Brain Injury Research at Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, UHN and currently holds a CIHR Chair in Gender, Work, and Health.
She has been awarded over 60 research grants from the most prestigious international funding sources and has over 200 publications. She has received numerous awards, national and international distinctions. She is a Fellow of the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine and American College of Epidemiology and has mentored over 65 graduate students who have taken leadership roles in academic, health care, and industry sector settings.
Susan Jaglal’s research interests include osteoporosis and hip fractures, rare neurological conditions and rehabilitation health services with emphasis on utilization, effectiveness of services and knowledge transfer.The findings of her research have been used by policy makers.
Since 2005 she has held the Toronto Rehabilitation Institute Chair at the University of Toronto to advance rehabilitation health services research and is Past-President of the Canadian Society for Epidemiology and Biostatistics. She has published over 160 peer-reviewed papers and received over $6 million in grant funding. She is proud of mentoring numerous graduate students and junior scientists.
