RSI Committees

There are 6 standing committees within the RSI. These committees work to inform the internal polices at RSI, oversee admissions, support students well-being, and other critical aspects of managing RSI.

Please note that some committees are open to student participation. A full description is provided below:

The Academic Affairs Committee (AAC)

Oversees the department program planning. This committee approves the internal policies that govern the RSI. It regularly reviews and monitors all course offerings by the RSI and recommends and implements changes to the curriculum. It also approves new RSI graduate memberships for faculty.

The AAC includes two student representatives – one MSc and one PhD.

The Student Affairs Committee (SAC)

To establish an academic learning environment for RSI students that promotes success, timely progress through program, responsiveness to issues relevant to RSI student community, respect diversity, and support overall student wellbeing..

The SAC includes two student members – one MSc and one PhD.

Terms of Reference

The Programs and Curricula Committee (PCC)

Develops, monitors and evaluates curricula as well as proposes, develops, monitors and evaluates program components (e.g., transfers, candidacy, oral defenses, etc.) as well as develops policies and procedures for consideration by the AAC.

The PCC includes two student representatives – one MSc and one PhD.

Faculty and Staff Development Committee (FSDC)

Supports and monitors faculty development, including education, mentoring and awards; plans annual departmental assembly; develops policies and procedures for consideration by the AAC.

Students are not represented on this committee.

Communications and Community Relations Committee (CCRC)

Proposes, develops, implements and monitors a) vehicles for communication with all RSI stakeholders including students (prospective and actual) and, b) activities to support relations with external stakeholders, supports advancement activities, develops policies and procedures for consideration by the AAC.

The CCRC includes four student members – two MSc and two PhD.

Alumni Committee

Its mission is to create a collegium of the alumni to foster the pursuit of shared goals within its membership and with the RSI in a framework of mutual trust and respect.

The Alumni Committee includes RSGSU representative(s).

Established under the authority of the Graduate Chair or Director of a Graduate Department, Centre or Institute. This Committee constitutes part of the overall academic appeals procedures available to graduate students within the University of Toronto.
