Amid the COVID-19 pandemic, healthcare professionals have been making an impact and helping those that are affected with this virus. RSI Master’s student Vahid Anwari and UHN colleagues, led by Dr. Azad Mashari are creating a 3D printed face shield after seeing the limited healthcare supplies available for healthcare workers. On March 29th, 2020, Anwari and his colleagues sent out their first 100 3D printed face shield to be shipped to healthcare workers. Due to the immense generosity and lending expenses, masks can be made for under $10 a piece at glia.org, a non for profit based in London, ON.

Anwari and his colleagues will spend the next several weeks to make thousands more, to ensure these shields get to frontline healthcare workers. The team has made the design available online free of charge (downloadable at glia.org) so that others can print the same shield and protect themselves amidst this pandemic. The team is still in need of a supplier for sheets of 1.5mm PETG plastic. If you are able to help, please email: vahid.anwari@uhn.ca.
