Required Application Materials
Applicants should consult the current RSI application instructions for the complete list of required documents.
RSI identifies the following core application components:
- Two official transcripts from each university previously attended
- A letter of intent describing the applicant's proposed research program
- Two letters of recommendation
- A current Curriculum Vitae (CV)
Additional information or materials may be requested as part of the application or by a potential supervisor.
Research Supervision
A strong match with a potential research supervisor is an important part of the RSI application process.
- Domestic applicants: Applicants are strongly encouraged – but not required - to identify a potential supervisor before applying. Doing so helps establish research fit and can strengthen the application.
- International applicants: A confirmed RSI graduate supervisor is required before an application can be reviewed.
Applicants should review the research interests of potential supervisors and contact faculty members whose research aligns with their interests. Applicants are encouraged to discuss potential research topics, supervisory availability, funding, and expectations before applying.
To find a supervisor, visit our Potential Supervisors and/or Faculty Directory webpages.
English-Language Proficiency
Applicants who were educated outside Canada, whose primary language is not English, and who graduated from a university where the language of instruction and examination was not English must demonstrate English-language proficiency.
For the current admission cycle, the SGS Graduate Calendar specifies:
